The Chemicals & Plastics Division focuses on two specific industries: Chemicals and Plastics.





Chemicals
In Chemicals, SCA concentrates on value-added niche items such as DCPD, Nonene, and Di-isobutylene in the petrochemical field; Allyl Glycygil Ether (AGE) and Di-allyl phthalate (DAP) as special performance raw materials; and Bentonite clay as the exclusive exporter to the Japanese market for both foundry and civil engineering applications.

Chemicals also handles pharmaceuticals, fertilizers, bio-chemicals and inorganic materials. An important aspect of the group business is its steady chemical business, including minerals such as strontium, fluorite and bauxite. The chemicals department also has several other specific growth areas: nutrition, automobile catalysts and methanol. In nutrition, healthcare and dietary supplement products, SCA is marketing our own branded ingredients H2Omega, Cranberry Seed Oil, Cranberry Protein Powder, Flax Seed Oil, Natural E Succinate powders as well as Natural Vitamin E oils and powders, Vitamins as well as other nutraceutical ingredients from around the world. SCA is increasing sales of catalysts that reduce exhaust gases to US automobile parts producers including Delphi, an industry leader. SCA is expanding business in methanol, a raw material used for fuel, acetic acid and other valuable products.

Through SCA joint venture affiliate, Metton America, Inc. (MAI), SCA has added high-purity Poly-DCPD materials for liquid molding and actively markets them in the US, Europe and Latin America. The main application is for class-8 and class-7 trucks in the US, including such leaders as Kenworth, Peterbilt, International Navistar, Volvo, and Freightliner as well as for agricultural machinery manufacturers John Deere and Caterpillar.

Plastics
The Plastics Division consists of three major business units Resin, Industrial Materials, and Plastics Packaging.

The Resin unit focuses on Engineering Plastics. With Sanyo Plastics Compound (SPC), an SCA plastics compound manufacturing joint venture in Tijuana, Mexico to serve customers in US and Mexico, the Resin unit provides plastic resin materials for a wide range of customers, including automotive, consumer electronics, office electronics, and other consumer products.

The Industrial Materials unit provides a variety of products, such as fiberglass for FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastics); woven fiberglass cloth for industrial applications; air filtration products for clean rooms; specialty chemicals for the semiconductor industry; building and construction materials; and plastics parts for automobiles.

The Plastics Packaging unit works with two of SCA joint venture partners: American Biaxis Inc. (ABI), a producer of biaxially oriented nylon films in Winnipeg, Canada, and Biaxis Packaging Sales Inc. (BPSI), an exclusive sales agent for ABI in IL. In addition, through BPSI, the Packaging unit handles a wide variety of nylon films and nylon resins, as well as adhesive polymer resins used in high performance packaging materials for various food and industrial markets.
